Doi Inthanon Gold — Northern Thai Highland Sativa

Reviewed by The Stoner Review Today’s Legacy Strain Spotlight
Mai and Nok call this one “the tall one from the upper slope.” It’s one of the purest expressions still growing on their family plot — a classic Northern Thai landrace sativa that has been selected and protected here for generations. Their father always saved seed from the tallest, most vigorous plants that showed the brightest citrus under the highland sun. This is what remains.

Growth & Structure
This is a true tropical sativa. It stretches aggressively — often 4x or more once flowering begins — with long, airy internodes and narrow leaflets. In the northern highlands it thrives in the cooler nights and strong seasonal sun. The open structure helps it handle the heavy monsoon humidity without mold, though Mai and Nok still stake the tallest colas carefully to prevent breakage.
Flowering takes patience: 13–16 weeks outdoors is typical. The plants keep building resin and complexity right until the weather shifts. When mature, some phenotypes show subtle purple or reddish hues in the leaves and sugar leaves as nights cool.
Aroma & Flavor Profile
Fresh growing smell: Sharp green with bright lemon-lime zest and a clean pine backbone. After slow traditional cure: The sharp edges round beautifully. Expect prominent citrus (lemon and sweet orange) riding over woody, earthy, and subtle spicy notes. A faint floral sweetness sometimes appears in the best expressions after full burping.
The smoke is smooth when properly cured. Inhale brings bright citrus and pine. Exhale deepens into warm earth and wood with a clean finish that lingers pleasantly. No harshness when done right — this is why the sisters still hang whole branches and burp the boxes the old way.

Effects
Classic old-school Thai sativa territory.
- Head: Clear, expansive, and uplifting. Thoughts flow easily and creativity feels accessible.
- Body: Light and functional — energetic without racing. Ideal for daytime work or active reasoning.
- Duration: Long-lasting but not overwhelming.
- Best for: Morning or afternoon use, creative tasks, social connection, or simply sitting with the hills and feeling present.
At higher amounts it can open into a wider, mildly visual space while still keeping you grounded. This is the kind of elevation their father valued — something that sharpens the mind rather than dulling it.

Why It Matters
Doi Inthanon Gold represents the best of what Northern Thai landraces still offer: extreme vigor, bright terpenes preserved through patient curing, and a clear, functional high that matches the rhythm of life on a working family farm. In an era where many “Thai” strains have been crossed and sped up, this expression keeps the original stretch, the long patience, and the clean citrus-wood signature that made Thai genetics legendary.
Mai says it best while checking a bundle at dusk: “This one still talks like the old plants. You just have to listen long enough.”
Final Verdict: 9.2/10 for legacy sativa lovers. True to place, true to history, and still delivering that bright highland uplift after all these seasons.
