Cool Kids Still Smoke Outside – NECANN hallway uniform with Cool Kids and Herb hoodies, New Jersey 2026 — The Stoner Review

Cool Kids Still Smoke Outside: Hallway Uniform After NECANN

NECANN New Jersey closed its Atlantic City Convention Center floor on Sept. 19. More than two weeks later, the part of the show New Jersey smokers still talk about is not the booth wall. It is the hallway: the curbside talks, the parking-garage introductions and the people who skipped a panel to compare notes with a grower.

That hallway did not close with the trade show. It moved. This month it shows up at Cars & Cannabis at Showboat in Atlantic City on Oct. 17, at Nightmare on Main Street in Englishtown on Oct. 23 and at the Cannabis Regulatory Commission's public meeting in Trenton on Oct. 29. This Field Note covers what people wore in those rooms, why a heavy hoodie keeps winning and what one North Jersey shelf costs today.

The Stoner Review sells shirts and hoodies. We do not sell or ship cannabis.

What the NECANN Hallway Showed

NECANN is a trade show, not a consumer festival. The exhibit hall ran Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as we reported in our NECANN New Jersey 2026 preview. Nothing is sold on the floor. Much of the useful conversation happens between sessions.

In those breaks, the dress code sorted itself. Company staff wore logo polos and lanyards. Growers, budtenders and longtime smokers mostly wore dark hoodies, worn-in tees and one graphic that said something. Our NECANN field guide made the same call before the doors opened: one statement piece, everything else quiet, and shoes you can stand in for eight hours.

The reason is practical. Convention halls run cold. Outdoor walkways run colder after dark. A heavy hoodie solves both problems and still looks deliberate in a photo.

Why "Outside" Still Matters

The headline is about culture, not a change in the law. New Jersey bars cannabis use in public places, and the state's Smoke-Free Air Act covers cannabis smoking indoors. The convention floor stays smoke-free.

"Outside" here means outside the sales pitch. It is the talk on the walk to the garage, the late table at a diner and the group text the next morning. That is where smokers ask who grew a cut, how it was cured and whether the jar smelled the same after a humid week. Those questions rarely make it onto a stage.

The people having that talk tend to dress alike. They wear clothes they already own and plan to wear again on Monday. That is the hallway uniform.

The Cool Kids Hoodie as the Uniform

The Cool Kids Unisex Hoodie fits that rule. It is a black heavy-blend hoodie with a horror-movie photo print on the chest: two pale, scarred figures, one holding a joint toward the camera. It reads as a joke from across a room and as a cult-film nod up close.

It also fits the calendar. October in New Jersey means costume nights, and this print works at a Halloween event without a costume. It costs $49.99 and ships free anywhere in the U.S., with no minimum.

Pair it with dark denim or work pants and plain shoes. Let the print do the talking. The hallway crowd has used that formula for years, and it still works.

Where the Hallway Goes in October

No second large New Jersey cannabis convention is on the public calendar after NECANN, as we noted in Remaining New Jersey Cannabis Events 2026. The rest of the fall is smaller and more local:

  • Oct. 17, Atlantic City: Cars & Cannabis at the Showboat Hotel, 801 Boardwalk. Organizers have advertised a late-afternoon into evening schedule. Confirm times on the official ticket page that week. Our Showboat packing list covers what to bring.
  • Oct. 23, Englishtown: Nightmare on Main Street, 6 to 10 p.m. at 34 Main Street, hosted by Bud It Up. The flyer lists a costume contest and requires ID showing you are 21 or older. Details are in our Nightmare on Main Street story.
  • Oct. 29, Trenton: The CRC public meeting at 11 a.m., according to the commission's meeting page on nj.gov. Read our CRC Oct. 29 preview before you go.

Each of those rooms has a hallway. Dress for it the same way: a warm layer, one clear graphic and nothing that looks like a free giveaway.

End the Night in the Herb Hoodie

If Cool Kids is the hallway joke, the Herb Unisex Hoodie is the plain fact. The military green hoodie carries a simple chart of three leaf drawings labeled Indica, Ruderalis and Sativa. There is no slogan and no potency number. A budtender gets it without an explanation.

That matters at the end of a long event day, when the jokes run out and the drive home starts. It is warm enough for the boardwalk after sunset and quiet enough for a diner booth.

Both hoodies are in the Bundle Up collection, where two hoodies ring up at $90 instead of $49.99 each. U.S. shipping is free on every order.

The Takeaway

NECANN gave New Jersey a two-day floor. The hallway is what lasts. This month it moves to Showboat, Main Street and Trenton, and the people in it still dress for each other, not for the booth. Wear one honest graphic. Keep it warm. Leave the lanyard in the car.
