Connecticut’s legal cannabis numbers, in one place. How many stores sell to adults and where, what the market sells each month, what a gram costs, what the state collects in tax, and which towns allow cannabis businesses. Every figure comes from the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP), the Department of Revenue Services (DRS) or Connecticut’s open-data portal. Each one links to its source and carries an “as of” date. We refresh it weekly.

Taxes on CT cannabis
Three taxes apply to an adult-use purchase. Since Oct. 1, 2026, the statewide cannabis tax is a flat 10.75% of the retailer’s gross receipts. Before that date it was based on the THC in each product. Shoppers also pay the 6.35% state sales tax, and the town where the store sits collects a 3% municipal cannabis tax. On a $22 chocolate bar, DRS figures the three taxes at $4.43, for a total of $26.43 (DRS).
| What | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Statewide cannabis tax | 10.75% | Of gross receipts. Replaced the THC-based tax on Oct. 1, 2026. DRS |
| Sales and use tax | 6.35% | Applies to every sale subject to the cannabis tax. DRS |
| Municipal cannabis tax | 3% | Collected for the host town, not by DRS. DRS |
Collections of the statewide cannabis tax reached $82.7M from January 2023 through June 2026, by our sum of DRS’s monthly figures. June 2026 brought in $3.4M. These figures cover the statewide cannabis tax only, not sales tax or the municipal tax, and they were collected under the old THC-based rates.

- Store counts: we count every row on DCP’s Licensed Cannabis and Medical Marijuana Retail Locations file marked “Hybrid Retailer” or “Adult-Use Cannabis Only.” Places use the city on DCP’s list.
- Sales: we add up DCP’s preliminary weekly rows by month and year. DCP splits weeks that cross a month line, so monthly sums are clean. DCP may revise these numbers.
- Tax: rates come from DRS. Collections are DRS’s monthly statewide cannabis tax figures, summed by state fiscal year (July–June). They exclude sales tax and the municipal tax.
- Prices: DCP’s average price per gram of usable cannabis. Average item price is TSR math: DCP’s adult-use weekly sales divided by adult-use items sold, for the latest month.
- Gaps: DCP does not publish sales by town or county, or sales per store. We mark these as not published. We don’t fill holes with guesses or third-party estimates.
