Comedy Cup: The Monthly YouTube Comedy Contest

Send us one original comedy bit on YouTube. A named host judges every tape on skill. The best bit each month wins half the entry pot.

How it works

1. Film an original comedy bit. Aim for 1 to 3 minutes. Five minutes max.
2. Upload it to YouTube. Public or unlisted.
3. Buy one Comedy Cup Entry for $5. Paste your full YouTube link in the order note at checkout.
4. Our named host scores every valid entry on craft. No likes. No random draw.
5. After the month closes, we crown a winner. The winner gets 50% of that month’s entry fees. TSR keeps 50% to produce the show.

How the host scores

Each valid entry gets 0 to 10 points in four equal categories:

• Originality (25%) – fresh premise, your own material.
• Timing and delivery (25%) – pace, pauses, punch.
• Writing and structure (25%) – setup, turns, a real ending.
• Presence (25%) – command of the camera or the room.

Highest total wins. Viewer comments and likes do not count toward the result.

Quick rules

• YouTube links only (youtube.com or youtu.be).
• One entry per person per calendar month.
• Original material you have the right to use.
• 18 or older. U.S. residents. Void where prohibited.
• Private, broken or spam links are disqualified.

Official Rules (summary)

Sponsor. The Stoner Review (thestonerreview.com), New Jersey.

Eligibility. Legal U.S. residents 18 or older (21+ where state law requires). Not open to TSR staff or their households. Void in any state where paid-entry skill contests are prohibited or require registration not completed by Sponsor.

Entry period. 12:00 a.m. ET on the first day through 11:59 p.m. ET on the last day of each calendar month.

How to enter. Upload one original comedy performance to YouTube, purchase one Comedy Cup Entry ($5), and include the YouTube URL in the order note. Duplicate URLs and entries without valid payment are void.

Judging. A named human Host Judge, identified on this page each month, scores entries on the four criteria above. Ties are broken by a re-score on writing and structure, then by earliest valid entry time. Contest of skill. Not a lottery, raffle or popularity vote.

Prize. Winner receives 50% of valid entry fees for that month, paid within 30 days of the announcement. Sponsor retains 50%. Winner may need to sign an eligibility affidavit and tax forms. Taxes are the winner’s responsibility.

Winner notice. Posted here and on TSR social channels within 10 days after the month ends. Winner has 7 days to respond.

Rights. You keep ownership. You grant TSR a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to embed, clip and promote your entry for the contest and brand.

General. Sponsor may disqualify off-brief, infringing or hateful content, and may modify or cancel a month for technical or legal reasons. New Jersey law governs. These rules are being finalized; the final version will be posted before paid entry opens.

Welcome to the Comedy Cup on The Stoner Review.

Once a month, comics send us a YouTube link – one original bit, about one to three minutes. Entry is five dollars. I watch every valid tape. I score them on originality, timing, writing, and presence. Highest score wins.

The prize is half of that month’s entry pot. We keep the other half to run the show. No popularity contest. No random draw. My scorecard decides it.
