01 The format
One original comedy bit per submission. Aim for 1 to 3 minutes. Five minutes max.
YouTube links only (youtube.com or youtu.be), Public or Unlisted.
$5 per submission. Multiple submissions are allowed. Each needs its own $5 entry and is judged on its own.
A new independent, named human judge scores each contest period.
No likes. No votes. No random draw. The judge’s scorecard decides.
02 How the judge scores
Each valid entry gets 0 to 10 points in four equal categories:
25%
Originality
Fresh premise, your own material.
25%
Timing & delivery
Pace, pauses, punch.
25%
Writing & structure
Setup, turns, a real ending.
25%
Presence
Command of the camera or the room.
Highest total wins. Judge for the current contest period: to be announced on this page before judging begins.
03 The 2,000-submission minimum
The contest minimum is 2,000 valid submissions. If fewer than 2,000 valid submissions have been received by the end of a calendar month, the month does not cancel and entry fees are not refunded. All valid submissions roll over and stay in the pool for the next month. The contest period continues month to month until cumulative valid submissions reach 2,000. The contest period closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on the last day of the calendar month in which the 2,000th valid submission is received. Judging then begins, the winner is announced, and the $1,000 prize is paid.
After a prize is awarded, a new contest period starts with a count of zero toward the next 2,000-submission minimum. TSR will announce the next prize, which may be higher. Entries counted toward a closed period do not count again.
04 Official Rules
1. Sponsor. The Stoner Review (thestonerreview.com), New Jersey (“Sponsor” or “TSR”).
2. Contest of skill. The Pot is a contest of skill. It is not a lottery, raffle, sweepstakes or popularity vote. Chance plays no part in selecting the winner.
3. Eligibility. Open to legal residents of the United States who are 18 or older (21 or older where state law requires) at the time of entry. Not open to TSR employees, contractors, judges, or members of their households. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Some states restrict paid-entry skill contests; Sponsor may update the list of excluded states at any time, and entries from excluded states are void and will be refunded.
4. How to enter. Upload one original comedy performance to YouTube (Public or Unlisted), purchase one The Pot Entry ($5) for that submission at thestonerreview.com/products/the-pot-entry, and paste the full YouTube URL in the order note at checkout. Each $5 purchase covers one submission. Entries without valid payment, without a working URL, or with a duplicate URL are void. The YouTube video must stay viewable until the winner is announced.
5. Entry fee. $5.00 per submission. Entry fees are fees to enter. They are not pooled into the prize and are non-refundable, except for entries Sponsor voids as ineligible under section 3.
6. Contest period and minimum. After a prize is awarded, a new contest period begins at zero. Entries counted toward a closed period do not count toward any later period.
7. Judging. Sponsor appoints a new, independent, named human judge for each contest period. The judge’s name is posted on this page before judging begins. The judge scores each valid entry 0 to 10 in originality, timing and delivery, writing and structure, and presence, weighted equally. Ties are broken by the writing and structure score, then by earliest valid entry time. The judge’s decisions are final.
8. Prize. Prize for the current contest period (announced for December 2026): $1,000, funded by Sponsor and paid within 30 days of the winner announcement. One prize per contest period. Prize amounts for later periods are set by Sponsor and posted before those periods begin. Winner may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility, a publicity release and tax forms (including IRS Form W-9). Taxes are the winner’s responsibility. Sponsor will issue a Form 1099 where required.
9. Winner notice. The winner is announced on this page and TSR social channels within 10 days after judging ends, and is contacted by the email used at checkout. The winner has 7 days to respond. If the winner does not respond or is ineligible, the next-highest score wins.
10. Content and disqualification. Entries must be your original material, and you must have the rights to everything in the video, including music. Sponsor may disqualify entries that infringe rights, contain hate speech, harassment, sexual content involving minors, illegal activity, or depict anyone under 21 using cannabis, and entries submitted by fraud or automated means. Disqualified entries are not refunded.
11. Rights. You keep ownership of your work. By entering, you grant TSR a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to embed, clip, share and promote your entry in connection with the contest and the TSR brand.
12. General. Sponsor may modify, suspend or end the contest for technical, legal or fraud reasons; if it ends a contest period before judging, Sponsor will refund entry fees for that period. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late or broken entries, YouTube outages or checkout errors. By entering, you release Sponsor from claims arising from participation, to the extent the law allows.
13. Governing law. New Jersey law governs these rules. Disputes are resolved in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey.
14. Contact and winner list. Questions or a winner list request: use the contact page at thestonerreview.com.
Once a month, comics send us a YouTube link – one original bit, about one to three minutes. Entry is five dollars. I watch every valid tape. I score them on originality, timing, writing, and presence. Highest score wins.
The prize is half of that month’s entry pot. We keep the other half to run the show. No popularity contest. No random draw. My scorecard decides it.
Rules are on this page: age limits, one entry a month, keep the link public or unlisted so we can play it, and keep the bit yours.
Submit your YouTube URL, pay the five bucks, and put your name on the month. We crown a winner after the calendar flips.
I’m your host. Let’s see what you got.
The Pot is a skill contest with an entry fee. Not a lottery or raffle. 18+ (21+ where required). U.S. residents only. Void where prohibited.
